Support for suspended national holidays

Suspended National Holidays
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Who is this feature for?

Companies with employees in countries that have suspended their official national holidays.

Ukraine is the clearest example. Its public holidays have been officially suspended because of the war, which means that for the purposes of a holiday import, the country has no national holidays at all.

Until now, that made for a confusing experience. You would choose the country, run the import, and get nothing back — no dates, no explanation. It looked exactly like an import that had failed, rather than one that had worked perfectly and found nothing to bring in. The obvious next move was to run it again and get the same empty result.

The import wasn't broken. There was simply nothing for it to return, and no way for us to tell you that.

Either way, you were left with no holidays in the system and no straightforward way to set them up.

How does it work?

Nothing changes in how you import. Admin users log in to Leave Dates and go to:

Settings > Holidays

Import holidays for a country as you normally would. Where a country's national holidays have been suspended, those dates now come through as well, each with (Suspended) after the holiday name so you can tell them apart at a glance.

They work like any other imported holiday. If your company observes them, there's nothing more to do. If it doesn't, remove the ones you don't want, exactly as you would with any imported holiday list.

Some companies continue to observe these days for their teams; others don't. Leave Dates no longer makes that choice for you by leaving the dates out entirely.
